Last Updated on 2022-02-18 by Admin

In some of my posts, I mention books that are useful, in some cases, very helpful. So I decided to make a list of the best dog health & nutrition books I own. Some books are specifically about vitamins and minerals that dogs need and how it impacts a dog. Other books use dog nutrition to bring sick dogs back to health. Included in the list is also a book on how to feed your dog home cooked meals that are nutritionally balanced.

One book in particular, K9 kitchen – your dogs diet the truth behind the-hype that is mentioned further down is highly recommended for anyone that has dog with allergies or sensitive digestion.

The Veterinarians Guide To Natural Remedies for Dogs

The Veterinarians Guide To Natural Remedies for Dog is one book I referenced many times in my articles. It’s a Book I believe every dog owner should have and reference. My copy is a few years old by now. There is information on dog food, illnesses, health products and contact info for veterinarians that use natural remedies to treat dogs.

You do not need to be a veterinarian to appreciate and use this book. There are many simple instructions in the book to treat common health issues experienced by dogs. I have given multiple copies of this book as gifts to other dog owners.

A simple recipe in the book helped remove the redness in Annie’s eyes. Another recipe to settle an upset stomach was also effective. For many illnesses nutrition can be used to bring a dog back to health, this book has some recipes for specific illnesses.

As this book is about natural remedies, it just means the veterinarians the wrote content for the book use a holistic approach. You can read my article on what the difference is between a conventional and holistic vet. They both start out with the same training.

If I be forced to choose just one of the books in my list of Best Dog Health & Nutrition Books, then this is the one.

Four Paws Five Directions

Four Paws Five Directions is another excellent book. I had planned to write an article regarding using acupressure on Annie. But now that I’m dealing with her Cruciate ligament issue, this has not been a priority.

There are several acupressure treatments from this book that I applied to Annie with surprisingly good results. The section on knee and hip joints was of interest to me because of Annie’s torn knee ligament. I did follow the instructions for Annie’s knee issue and used the related acupressure points with much success. Using the information from this book is a great addition to any alternative treatment for dogs with knee injuries. Of course this book covers much more than just joint related help tips.

The book is not just about acupressure. It also mentions herbal formulas that You can buy to help Your dog or cat. Since food is vital in Chinese medicine, there are food recommendations for specific types of health issues. I have integrated some of those tips in Annie’s meals. Food recommendations of course can addresses health issues in dogs because nutrition is the building block for good health. So it is not always about specific vitamins and minerals when dealing with nutrition. So much can be done in a more holistic approach.

K9 kitchen your dogs diet the truth behind the-hype

Another excellent book that gets referenced in my articles, the one book that helped me on my way to treat Annie’s constant diarrhea when she was a puppy.

Anyone who has a dog that has allergies could use this book. Anyone interested in a no-nonsense, no hype nutrition book should read this book. The book is available in print and digital format. What I like about this book is that it does mention hype and address the truth about feeding dogs. Many dog owners are unsure of what is good for the dog and how to feed them for good health. In all of that debate, what is so often forgotten is that dogs have been living with humans for thousands of year with out special attention to nutrition.
